FIFA, the governing body of soccer throughout the world, has announced that organizers have sold 2.45 million tickets for this year’s World Cup, which will be held in Qatar. More than half a million of those tickets were sold during the most recent sales period, which ran from July 5 to August 16.

According to FIFA, the matches in the group stage that had the most number of tickets granted were those involving Cameroon and Brazil, Brazil and Serbia, Portugal and Uruguay, Costa Rica and Germany, and Australia and Denmark.

“Fans living in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, England, Argentina, Brazil, Wales, and Australia led the way and the digital queues by securing the largest number of tickets,” said FIFA. “Fans living in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, England, and Brazil also secured the largest number of tickets.”

Three months before the start of the tournament in Qatar, there are more than 500,000 seats that have not yet been claimed.

According to FIFA, the launch date for the subsequent sales phase will be revealed by the end of September.

Following the beginning of the last phase of the sales phase, Doha will also see the beginning of sales over-the-counter.

The opening ceremony for the World Cup will take place on the day before the first game of the tournament, which will be played on November 20 between the host nation and Ecuador. This is a day earlier than the tournament was initially slated to begin.

It will be the first time that the World Cup has been played in the Middle East, and the tournament has been moved to a later part of the year than its regular June-July slot in order to escape the region’s oppressive summer heat.

Fans coming from countries other than Qatar can purchase tickets starting at 250 riyals, which is equivalent to $100 USD.

In order for fans to reserve lodging in Qatar through an official event website, they must first have their ticket purchase verified.

About two million tickets were made available to the general public, while another million were reserved for FIFA stakeholders such member federations, sponsors, broadcasters, and hospitality program participants.

Previously, FIFA stated that it had received three million ticket requests for the World Cup final, which would be held on December 18 – Qatar’s national day – in the brand new Lusail Stadium, which has 80,000 seats.
