The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, often known as the Tanzania National Main Stadium, is a multi-purpose venue in the country. It is located in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in the Miburani section of the Temeke District. It replaced the older Uhuru Stadium, the country’s national stadium, and opened to the public in 2007. Two of the most important football competitions in Tanzania are the Tanzanian Premier League and matches played at home by the Tanzania national football team.

With a capacity of 60,000 spectators, it is the largest stadium in Tanzania and the eighth largest stadium in all of Africa. The Tanzanian government currently owns it. The stadium’s construction by Beijing Construction Engineering Group cost $56 million.Ratiba mpya ya Yanga 2022/23, Ratiba kamili ya Yanga SC 2022-2023, Simba SC 2022/2023, Jangwani Jijini Dar es Salaam, Watani wa Jadi, Jangwani, Yanga SC Tanzania, Yanga SC 2022/2023.

China’s True Role in Africa, Writing for The New Yorker, Deborah Brautigam states, “To the Bretton Woods Institutions, building a contemporary stadium in a poor country with an annual per capita income of $330 seemed a bit like the Romans building a new Coliseum with the barbarians camped outside the city wall.” Brautigam draws parallels between the current state of affairs and the time when the Romans constructed the Coliseum while barbarians camped outside the city walls.
