The CEO of Ugandan Airlines lacks the necessary qualifications for the position.

According to the findings of a parliamentary committee, Jennifer Bamuturaki, the current CEO of Uganda Airlines, did not possess the required level of academic achievement when she was selected for the position.

The information became public when she gave the Committee on State Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase), which is investigating the findings from the Auditor General’s report for Financial Year 2020/2021, copies of her curriculum vitae (CV), job description, and academic documents.

Additionally, Ms. Bamuturaki presented the documentation of high-ranking supervisors at the director and manager levels.

At the time of her appointment, Ms. Bamuturaki only had a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Works and Social Administration, and she did not have a post graduate qualification; however, this was a qualification that was required for the post. The committee, which was chaired by the Member of Parliament for Nakawa West Joel Ssenyonyi, indicated that this information.

It was highlighted that Ms. Bamuturaki did not have any postgraduate training in administration or any other business-related degree, despite the fact that she possessed the majority of the other credentials listed in the advertisement for the CEO role.

In addition to that, she has 15 years of experience, which is far more than the needed 10 years of experience for candidates.

Ms. Bamuturaki disclosed, on the other hand, that she is now attending classes at Makerere University in order to earn a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration.

She stated that in contrast to other fields of work in Uganda, the administration of the aviation industry depends heavily on one’s level of experience, and that she possesses a significant amount of experience working in the industry in addition to certificates from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). She went on to say that because of this, she is qualified for the position.

“In aviation, IATA does not offer you degrees. It issues credentials such as diplomas and certificates. If I were to collect all of the certifications that I have received from IATA, they would add up to a diploma; however, I already hold a degree. Ms. Bamuturaki told media in following the committee’s disclosures that it does not matter if I went to the moon or whether I did MDD; what counts is [whether] I have the talent, and I do.

Ms. Bamuturaki told anyone who disagreed with her appointment to look into the matter with the board members of Uganda Airlines.

Legislators, on the other hand, have promised to pursue legal action against her.

Gerald Nangoli, a member of the Elgon County Legislative Assembly, questioned how a chief executive officer (CEO) who did not have have the necessary expertise or qualifications to lead a government agency that handled billions of dollars in taxpayer funds could be hired.

“As a nation, we run the danger of incurring financial losses. This brings shame not only on the taxpayers of Uganda but also on the government of Uganda. It is time to put an end to this corrupt practice of nepotism.

In July of 1995, Ms. Bamuturaki began her career as a country manager at the Imperial Botanical Hotel. She later transferred to the Sheraton Hotel and worked there between the years 1996 and 2000.

She had various different positions at the Sheraton, including that of desk relations officer and sales manager, among others.
After that, she began working for East African Airlines, where she was employed from September 2000 until September 2003. After that, she moved on to a travel agency, where she served as a sales manager for a period of one year.

Between the months of April 2007 and 2014, Ms. Bamuturaki was also employed with the commercial section of Air Uganda.
