Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is a public university in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It is accredited by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

 

MUHAS 2022/2023 Location

As of June 2018, the university had two campuses:

• The Main Campus along United Nations Road, in Upanga West, in the city of Dar es Salaam.

• The Mloganzila Campus, approximately 31 kilometres (19 mi) west of Muhimbili Hospital, along the A-7 Highway.This campus hosts a 571-bed, start-of-art teaching hospital.

• The university maintains a teaching facility in the town of Bagamoyo, about 66 kilometres (41 mi), by road, north-west of Dar es Salaam.
• The university also maintains a student hostel located along Chole Road, Masaki, in Dar es Salaam.

MUHAS History

The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences traces its origins to 1963, when it opened as Dar es Salaam Medical School. The school became the faculty of medicine of the University of Dar es Salaam, in 1968. In 1976 the Faculty of Medicine was incorporated into Muhimbili Hospital to form the Muhimbili Medical Centre (MMC).^[3]

The Parliament Act No. 9 of 1991, upgraded the faculty to a college of Dar es Salaam; the Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS). In 2000 the Government by Act of Parliament dis-established MMC and created two closely linked, but autonomous public institutions: MUCHS and the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH). Over the years MUCHS made significant achievements in increased student enrollment and development of several new academic programmes. The Parliament Act No. 9 of 1991 that established MUCHS was repealed in 2005. In 2007, MUHAS was established by Article 1 of the Charter of Incorporation, in line with the recommendations of the Tanzania Commission of Universities

How to apply for admission to MUHAS online (Via MUHAS OAS)

 

This is a step-by-step instruction on how to apply to Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences’ undergraduate and graduate programs. To apply for admission, please complete the following procedures;

Step 1: Access the webpage for MUHAS Admission: https://pgoas.muhas.ac.tz/

Step 2: Once the MUHAS online application system has opened, click to the Undergraduate or postgraduate area and carefully read the relevant instructions.

Step 3: Registration: Follow the link to register and provide the essential information to complete your registration. The required information upon registration includes the following:

Given name
Surname
Email Address Mobile Number

To complete registration, you will be required to provide a password that you will use everytime you log in to the admissions system.

If your registration is successful, the system will send you an email or SMS. Please use the link supplied to your email address to activate your admissions account.

Login to the MUHAS online application: Utilize your Username and password to log into MUHAS OAS. Complete your registration by entering your gender, marital status, and date of birth, among other essential information.

Step 5: Payment of MUHAS Application fees: After completing the registration phase, the control number will be produced immediately, and you will be able to pay the application cost and submit your application. A successful application requires a non-refundable application fee of 10,000/= Tanzanian Shillings.

Step 6: The course selection function is only accessible when the application cost has been paid; choose your courses with care and submit your application: To successfully submit an application, the applicant must complete all stages between “Home” and “Submit your application.”

5.1 Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health Sciences (BSc. EHS)
Program duration: 3 Years
Admission/Entry Requirements
Direct Entry (Form six): Three principal passes in Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or
Mathematics or Nutrition or Geography or Agriculture with a minimum of 6 points. A
minimum of C grade in Chemistry and D grade in Biology and at least E grade in Physics or
Advanced Mathematics or Nutrition or Geography or Agriculture.

EQUIVALENT ENTRANTS

All equivalent applicants may apply for the above Programs (except Bachelor of Biomedical
Engineering) if they meet the requirements stated below:
 Appropriate and relevant Diploma or Advanced Diploma with an average of “B’’ or a
minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, an applicant must have a minimum of “D” grade in the
following subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and English at O-Level.
 Candidates MUST have a valid Award Verification Number (AVN) issued by NACTE
Equivalent Qualifications for Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering (BBME)
 Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Biomedical, Electrical, Electronics and
Telecommunication, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science with an
average of “B+” or a minimum GPA of 3.5. In addition, an applicant must have a
minimum of “D” grade in the following subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics
and English at O-Level

 

B. HOLDERS OF FOREIGN CERTIFICATES
All applicants holding foreign qualifications must have their certificates validated and equated by the
respective regulatory bodies/ Authorities before submitting their applications for admissions as
follows;
(i) The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) in respect of Certificates of
Secondary Education and Teacher education.
(ii) The National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) in respect of NTA Level 6 /
Diploma qualification.

 

C. MODE OF APPLICATION
Applicants are required to apply online through the University Website www.muhas.ac.tz and follow
instructions given through online application system to apply for the courses of their choice.
Application Fees
For Local applicants: Application fee is TZS 10,000/=. This can be paid via mobile money as per
instructions given in the application portal upon receipt of control number which is automatically
generated by the system.
For Foreign applicants: Application fee is 10 USD which should be deposited directly to MUHAS
NBC Bank Account. All transfer charges for International applicants must be borne by the applicants

D. IMPORTANT INFORMATION

 Applicants are required to carefully read and understand the Program Admission
requirements.
 Make an informed choice of the programme applied for, taking into account the competition,
one’s passes as well as career aspirations.
 Applicants are reminded to ensure that the names and index numbers used during application
for admission matches with those used during their studies.
 Applicants must ascertain themselves that they possess the minimum entry qualifications
before they pay application fees as these fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.
 Applicants will be selected to join the University based on their qualifications and fulfilment
of entry requirements and NOT otherwise.
 Students discontinued from studies on academic grounds from this or any other University
shall only be eligible for re- admission or admission respectively to this University for the
same or any other program at least three (3) years after discontinuation from studies.
 Students discontinued from studies on disciplinary grounds or due to examination
irregularities shall NOT be re-admitted to this University.
 Applicants are informed and reminded that it is an offence to submit false information for
admission. Any candidate who will be discovered to have submitted false information will
