About Vipers

In 1969, the club began as Bunamwaya FC.

After winning the Wakiso District and Super Mini League Promotion League in 2005, Vipers SC has been in the Uganda Premier League since 2006.

Since the 2006–07 season, they have always been in the top half of the table.

With the help of President Lawrence Mulindwa, the club signed a number of important players for the 2010 season, including seven players from the Ugandan National Team at the time. Bunamwaya won the Uganda Premier League for the first time in their history with two rounds to spare. They couldn’t afford to take part in the CAF Champions League in 2011.

Bunamwaya couldn’t repeat their success. They finished third in 2011 and second in both the league and the cup in 2012.

On August 21, 2012, Bunamwaya changed its name to Vipers SC to “raise the club’s status” and make it more important on a national level.

Vipers lost the final of the Uganda Cup in 2013 in a very sad way. After taking the lead on a penalty kick by Joseph Mprade in the 78th minute, Victoria University scored in the last seconds of the game and then won the penalty kick shootout 5–3.

After a season in which Vipers only lost once in the league, they finally won again in the 2014–15 season.

[9] Edward Golola was in charge of them. The club has close ties with St. Mary’s School in Kitende, and 17 players from that school were on the 2015 championship-winning team.

For the first time, Vipers played against teams from other parts of the continent in the championship. In the preliminary round of the 2016 CAF Champions League, they lost to Enyimba FC of Nigeria by a score of 2–1 on aggregate. This was their first ever loss on a continental level.

Vipers came in second place in the 2015–16 season, but they won the Uganda Cup for the first time ever by beating Onduparaka FC 3–1.

The win got them into the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup, where they beat Volcan Club from Comoros 1–1 on away goals but lost to South African Platinum Stars 3–2 on aggregate after giving up a penalty in the 90th minute.

The Vipers played in the CAF Champions League in 2018–19, but they lost to CS Constantine of Algeria 3–0 on aggregate and didn’t make it to the group stage.

Vipers sc won the Uganda Premier League 2019/2020 for the fourth time after the league was canceled by FUFA because of the COVID19 disease outbreak. At the time, they were in first place with 54 points from 25 games.

In April 2022, Vipers beat their rivals KCCA FC 2-1 at Lugogo stadium. Their captain Halid Lwaliwa and Milton Marisa scored two goals to come from behind and win the game. After beating Express FC 3-0 at St. Mary’s stadium with four games left in the 2021-2022 season, Vipers SC went on to win the title.
