UDOM Second Selection 2022/23 – University of Dodoma

The University of Dodoma, or UDOM, is a public university in the capital city of Tanzania, Dodoma. Construction is going on on a 6,000-hectare site in the Chimwaga area, which is about 8 kilometers (5.0 miles) east of Dodoma’s city center.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, signed the University of Dodoma’s Charter in March 2007. This made the University of Dodoma a real place. In September 2007, the first academic programs began. At the moment, UDOM is the fastest-growing university in the country. It is also the biggest university in the country, and it is praised for turning out candidates who are skilled and qualified enough to compete in the job market.

 

 

In line with Tanzania’s Development Vision 2025, the University of Dodoma will be able to accept 50,000 students when it is fully operational.

When UDOM is fully running, this is more than three times as big as the University of Dar es Salaam. So far, it is 80% done and is already twice as big as and able to hold twice as many people as The University of Dar es Salaam.

There are currently seven colleges at the University of Dodoma: the College of Earth Science, the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, the College of Informatics and Virtual Education, the College of Education, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Health and Allied Science, and the College of Business Studies and Law. Recently, a new academic institute called the Institute of Development Studies was also set up within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The university has a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in almost every field of study.

In the college of education, there are several first-year programs that focus on problems in the education sector in Tanzania and around the world. In the college of education, there are 11 different bachelor’s degrees.

In Tanzania and the East African and Central African region as a whole, the College of Informatics and Virtual Education is known for its excellent work in the field of ICT. The college offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in areas like computer science, computer engineering, telecommunication engineering, information security, health and business information systems, and many more.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences has programs in geography and environmental studies, languages, history, political science, international relations, development studies, theater and film, art and design, and many more.

 

The programs at the College of Business Studies and Law are designed to help students become experts in business studies and law. This college offers degrees in accounting, finance, business administration, human resource management, international business, procurement and logistics management, information system management, economics, economics and sociology, economics and statistics, and law.

In the college of Earth sciences, courses like petroleum engineering, mineral processing engineering, mining, geology, geo-informatics, hydrology, and environmental engineering are taught.

The college of natural and mathematical sciences has a variety of science and math degree programs. This college has three schools: the school of physical sciences, which teaches things like physics and chemistry, the school of mathematical sciences, which teaches things like math and statistics, and the school of biological sciences, which teaches things like biology, aquaculture, and aquatic sciences.

The college of health and allied sciences offers courses in medicine, nursing, and pharmacy, among other things. At the postgraduate level, students specialize in areas like surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, microbiology and immunology, paediatrics and child health, and pathology. There are programs like paediatric nursing, nursing education, public health, and midwifery at the school of nursing and public health.

Notible Alumni includes Juliana Shonza, a Tanzanian politician and member of parliament, went to graduate school.

 

 

University of Dodoma

Dodoma City is located in the country’s center (6°10’23″S; 35°44’31″E), 455 kilometers west of the old capital, Dar es Salaam, and 441 kilometers south of Arusha, the birthplace of the East African Community. It is also 259 kilometers north of Iringa Municipality through Mtera. The city has a total area of 2,669 km2, of which 625 km2 are urbanized.

Dodoma has a semi-arid climate with reasonably moderate temperatures all year. Although average maximum temperatures remain stable throughout the year, average minimum temperatures dip to 13°C in July. The average annual precipitation is 570 mm, with the majority falling during the rainy season between November and April, and the remaining falling during the dry season.

The city is served by the recently restored Dodoma Airport and the Central Railway Line, which connects it to Dar es Salaam over a distance of 465 kilometers. There are additional significant motorways linking Dodoma to Dar es Salaam to the east (through Morogoro Region), Mwanza City to the west (by Singida), and Arusha to the north (via Kondoa).

The University lies about 8 kilometers east of the city center and is easily accessible by public transportation from the city center. Given Dodoma’s central location, UDOM is perfectly positioned to assist candidates from throughout the country, as well as Government and private sector personnel residing in Dodoma who have previously been unable to locate training options in the region. Such employees can use UDOM to easily integrate job and education for professional improvement. Furthermore, the geographical location and weather of Dodoma make UDOM a suitable choice for overseas students.
