The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most talked-about teams in the NBA ever since they signed LeBron James as a free agent last summer.

The “new era” has begun for the Purple and Gold, who are looking to get back into title contention. They have done everything possible to make sure that happens within the next two seasons, from trading for Anthony Davis, signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Brandon Ingram to maximum contract extensions, to signing Avery Bradley on a bargain deal.

But how far can this team go with its current roster? Well… probably not all the way to another championship. However, with their current setup, we believe there is potential for them to win it all in 2021-2022 at the very latest. In fact, once 2021 rolls around, we think they could be a good contender for the title if everything goes right.

If you’re wondering which players might be key in the Lakers’ road back to the top of the NBA, here are our Top 10 Players To Watch For In The 2021/2022 Season As The Lakers Gear Up For A Title Run.

D’Angelo Russell

The former no. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft has had a tough ride so far in his career. His game suffered due to a change in head coaches and systems, and he was also caught up in an unfortunate scandal in which he was blamed for leaking team secrets to the media.

Now, however, he appears to be in the best shape of his career and the Lakers have used him in a variety of roles that suit his skill set. He started out as the first option on the second unit, then moved up to become the first option at the end of games, as well as seeing extensive time with the starters.

Russell has played every position on the court for the Lakers, even taking turns at center in certain lineups. He has been the most important player in the team’s rotation all season long, and if it weren’t for the presence of LeBron, he may well have been the MVP for the Lakers.

Kyle Kuzma

Kuzma has been on most people’s radar ever since he broke out as a rookie last season, although he has taken his game to a new level since the start of the year. He has become one of the most efficient scorers in the league, hitting three-pointers, step-backs, and a wide range of shots inside and outside the paint.

He’s incredibly versatile and can play the 3 and 4. He can also play some minutes at the 5 in small-ball lineups. Kuzma is a very good scorer with a great scorer’s mentality, and he has proven that he can get to the rim and finish there. He is also an above average passer for a forward and can also guard multiple positions.

Kuzma has all the tools to be a star, and if he keeps up this level of play, we’ll see him as a starter next season. He’s a top-five player on the Lakers and could see his stock rise even further if LeBron decides to leave.

Brandon Ingram

This is perhaps the most important season of Ingram’s career. After a disappointing sophomore season in which he struggled to find his role in the team, he has turned things around this year and is playing with a new level of confidence. He’s taking more shots and being more aggressive, while also averaging career-highs in points, assists, and rebounds. He has also taken on a larger role in handling the ball, allowing LeBron to play off the ball more often. Ingram has had a disappointing start to his NBA career, but he is one of the most promising players on this roster and could develop into a star with more game time. He’s no. 2 on our list because he is a sure thing, while a couple of others are still works in progress.

Lonzo Ball

Lonzo Ball has taken a bit of a back seat over the last couple of months, but he remains one of the most important pieces in the Lakers’ plans for the future. He is the team’s primary playmaker and best shooter (along with Moe Wagner), and his ability to find teammates off the pick and roll is crucial to this team’s success.

He has also developed into a solid defender, guarding the opponent’s best guard on most nights. Despite being injured at times this season, he has had a good year and proven that he can be a starter in the NBA. His shooting has been streaky and he has had some issues with turnovers this year, but otherwise, he’s been a very reliable player.

LeBron James

No explanation necessary. LeBron is still the best player in the league and has been the best player on the Lakers all season long. He is averaging a career-high in points, as well as in assists and rebounds.

He has played the most games in a season since 2012-2013, and it shows in his health; LeBron has played in all but two games this season. He is currently averaging 37 minutes per game with no signs of slowing down.

LeBron is still incredibly efficient, shooting at an elite level from the field and the free-throw line while averaging more than 10 free throw attempts per game. He is playing the best basketball of his career and it would be no surprise to see him win another MVP in the next few years.Top 10 Players to Watch For 2022/2023 as the Lakers Gear Up for a Title Run

JaVale McGee’s health has been a concern ever since he signed with the Lakers, but he has proven to be worth the risk. He is averaging 16.5 point
