Mtibwa Sugar Sports Club was founded in 1988 by a group of workers of Mtibwa Sugar Estates Ltd. who decided to form a football team which will take part in league competitions at district level. The team started playing in the 4th division in 1989 and got promoted to the first division in 1996. In 1998, the league was restructured and became the Premier League.

Sokoine Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Mbeya, Tanzania, owned by the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) political party.

It is used mostly for football matches and serves as the home venue for Prisons FC and Mbeya City F.C. It holds 20,000 people.

Originally named the Mapinduzi Stadium, it was re-named Sokoine Memorial Stadium in 1984, after the death of Edward Sokoine, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tanzania.

Mbeya is a city located in south west Tanzania, Africa. Mbeya’s urban population was 385,279 according to the 2012 census. Mbeya is the capital of the surrounding rural Mbeya region (population, with Mbeya, totals approx. 2 million).

Mbeya and its district were administered by the British until 1961. Mbeya Region was created in 1961. Mbeya City is now a growing metropolis and business centre for the southern regions and the neighbouring countries of Malawi, Zambia and Congo. The city is well connected with an all-weather road that forms part of the “Great North Road” running from Cape Town to Alexandria.
