SUA Second Selection 2022/2023 Academic Year

Introduction
By Parliamentary Act No. 6 of 1984, the Sokoine University of Agriculture was set up on July 1, 1984. At the moment, the University is run by the Universities Act No. 7 of 2005 and the SUA Charter and Rules of 2007.

History
The university can be traced back to 1965 in Morogoro, when it started out as an agriculture college that gave diplomas in farming. After the East African Community broke up in 1970, so did the University of East Africa. It was the only school in East Africa that offered degrees in agriculture. This caused the government of Tanzania to set up a local institution, which led to the creation of the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Dar es Salaam. Sokoine Agriculture College became part of this group, and the University of Dar es Salaam told it to start giving Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degrees.

In the Faculty of Agriculture, things kept getting better. In 1974, the Division of Forestry was set up, and in 1976, the Division of Veterinary Science was set up. Because of this, the name of the faculty was changed to “Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Sciences.” As the number of students grew, the parliament decided to split off the faculty and make a full-fledged university. This was done to help the country’s agriculture grow. The faculty became a university through Parliamentary Act No. 6 of 1984. It is now called Sokoine University of Agriculture.

Campuses
The University has five campuses: Edward Moringe Campus (2,376 ha) and Solomon Mahlangu Campus (1,050 ha), both in Morogoro, Olmotonyi Campus (840 ha) in Arusha, Mazumbai Campus (320 ha) in Tanga Region, Mizengo Pinda Campus (64 ha) in Katavi Region, and Tunduru Campus (509 ha) in Ruvuma Region. SUA also has places for students to do fieldwork in Mbinga, Ruvuma Region; Mgeta (Nyandira), Morning side; and Kitulanghalo Forest, Morogoro Region.

SUA is responsible for four things: training, research, consulting, and community outreach. SUA has classes that lead to certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and even doctorates. Non-degree programs include a Diploma in Information and Library Science, a Diploma in Records, Archives, and Information Management, a Diploma in Animal Health and Production, a Diploma in Laboratory Technology, and a Diploma in Information Technology.

The SUA Library and the Tanzania National Agricultural Library are both part of the Sokoine National Agricultural Library. The library offers services to people at the university and in the agricultural and other related fields.
