SASSA increase 2022 Dates
South African Social Security Organization (SASSA) is a government agency established in April 2005 to administer social subsidies on behalf of the Department of Social Development. The DSD has oversight but no operational control over the Agency.
It was also created to reallocate the social security function from South Africa’s provinces to the national government and reports to the Department of Social Development (DSD). Its current CEO is Busisiwe Memela – Khambula. According to Schedule 3A of the Public Finance Management Act, SASSA is a public institution .
The primary functions of the parastatal concern the administration and payment of social grants: the processing of applications, verification and approval of applications, disbursement and payment of grants to eligible recipients, quality assurance, and fraud prevention and detection .
The number of South Africans receiving social assistance increased from 3.8 million in April 2001 to 11 million in March 2006 and 17 million in 2017. .
From May 2020 until April 2021, millions of South Africans got the Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant.
