Premier League Top Goal Scorers: Who Will Be The King Of Goals In 2022-2023?

There’s no doubt that the Premier League is the home of the world’s best strikers, with a host of lethal finishers lighting up England’s top flight on a weekly basis.

It also helps that there are some of the world’s best creative talents plying their trade in England too. Players such as Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Eden Hazard all operate in attacking midfield and are capable of unlocking any defence given the right service.

Where it all falls down slightly is in The Checkatrade™ Performance Index which ranks Premier League strikers on their defensive contribution as well as their goalscoring output.

The likes of Wilfried Bony and Vincente Imbula have been excelling at other clubs who value those aspects more highly than most teams in the Premier League, so it only leaves us wondering who will be leading the goal-scoring charts come 2022-2023? Let’s take a look:

Harry Kane – 8.5 Rating

Top of this list for the last three seasons, Harry Kane is the top man in this list, with an impressive average rating of 8.5. The Tottenham Hotspur striker is one of the most prolific finishers in world football and has been on fire for the last few seasons, averaging over 30 goals a season for the last two.

At only 25 years of age, Kane could potentially break the 40-goal mark in a single season, but that’s unlikely. With Spurs having a number of young attacking players in their squad, they are expected to continue to increase their goalscoring output and play in a more offensive style.

Although this is unlikely to have a huge impact on Kane’s goal tally, the England captain will definitely hit the 30 mark once again.

Mohamed Salah – 7.6 Rating

One of the most unpredictable names on this list, Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah has had little over a season at Liverpool to become one of the world’s best finishers.

He scored 32 goals in 41 appearances for Liverpool in his debut season, and will be looking to continue this form when the Reds return to the Premier League next year. Assuming he stays on Merseyside, Salah should sit comfortably on the top of the Premier League goal-scorer charts come 2022-2023.

Sergio Aguero – 7.4 Rating

Another player who has featured regularly atop this list is Argentinean striker Sergio Aguero. The Argentinean has been scoring goals for Manchester City since 2011, and is widely considered as one of the best forwards in the world. Aguero is expected to remain at City for the next few seasons at least, and will likely finish in the top three of this list come 2022-2023.

Raheem Sterling – 7.0 Rating

A surprising name on this list is England international Raheem Sterling. The Liverpool winger has been in sensational form for the Reds over the past few years, but with Jurgen Klopp determined to turn Liverpool into a defensive juggernaut come next season, Sterling could see his goal tally decrease next season.

Eden Hazard – 6.7 Rating

Another surprising name on this list is Chelsea star Eden Hazard. The Belgian midfielder has been a key player for Chelsea over the last couple of seasons, but with the Blues expected to be challenging for the title come 2022-2023, he is likely to see his goal tally drop.

Conclusion

While this list is certainly just a prediction based on statistics and past performance, it is certainly an interesting read. It is difficult to predict who will be top scorer in 2022-2023, but it is also difficult to argue against any of these names. With a new team being promoted to the Premier League each season, and teams being relegated, it could be that some new-found talents are ready to take the top scorer’s crown, but it is unlikely that any of these names will be dethroned.
