The Functions of Tanzania’s National Examinations
To design examinations policy in accordance with the education for self-reliance principles and the education and training policy
To assign responsibilities for examinations throughout the United Republic of Tanzania and to designate examination locations and centers.
To receive from other persons or bodies reports or other information influencing examinations policy, and to periodically consider and review examinations policy as required by the circumstances.
Cooperate with other individuals and organizations in the creation of an examinations system in the United Republic of Tanzania
To administer examinations for and confer degrees, certificates, and other council rewards.
To serve as the organization responsible for facilitating, administering, and supervising foreign examinations in Tanzania.

 

Competences and responsibilities of the Tanzanian National Examinations Council
Administer the Council’s properties, both mobile and immovable.
To oversee the Council’s finances and other assets; To affix the Council’s acts with the common seal;
Subject to the requirements of this Act, the Council may appoint such officers as it deems necessary.
To review examination-related regulations
To evaluate and approve appropriate examination topics
To appoint panels or boards of examiners To enter into arrangements, whether reciprocal or otherwise, with other people or organizations within or outside the United Kingdom for the recognition of awards issued in relation to examinations falling within their respective responsibilities

The following grade ranges shall be used for the certificate of secondary education examination:

(a) 75-100 = A – signifying Outstanding (b) 60 to 74 = B+ – signifying Exceptional (c) 50 to 59 = B – denoting Good (d) 40-49 = C – signifying the Mean (e) 30-39 = D – indicating Acceptable (f) 20-29 = E – signifying Unsatisfactory Performance (g) 0-19 = F, denoting failure Note: Over the previous few years, it has been observed that the dates and times of result announcements have changed regularly.
