Mookie Betts ends the game with a diving catch in the corner

In the first inning, Mookie Betts hit a home run to put the Dodgers ahead against the Giants. In the ninth inning, he caught a fly ball to secure the win.

The West division foes got the second half started off on the right foot, trading leads before the Dodgers eventually won 9-6..Betts’ three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning was the game-winning hit, and his diving catch on the game’s final out was equally incredible.

Dave Roberts described Verdugo as “a great all-around ballplayer” after his impressive performance. “He did everything,” Roberts said. “He displayed all of his abilities tonight, with his bat, with his legs, with his glove.”.“ That’s why he’s one of the best in the game, because he hit the big three-run homer.”

In the early going, Los Angeles jumped out to a 5-0 lead in support of starter Mitch White, who threw five-plus scoreless innings. The Giants tied the game in the seventh inning on a Darif Ruf grand slam off of Alex Vesia. Evan Phillips bases-loaded walk in the top of the eighth inning gave the Giants the lead.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, right-hander Dominic Leone faced Gavin Lux, who hit a one-out double.

Later, Trayce Thompson scored on a game-tying triple after hitting a one-out triple.. Leone gave way to lefty Jarlín García, against whom Cody Bellinger — who was celebrating his bobblehead night — worked a walk. Up came Betts, who crushed a middle-middle changeup a Statcast-projected 406 feet to left field. It was Betts’ 21st homer of the season.

Thompson’s game-tying triple

Betts chose to emphasise his teammates’ strong at-bats, rather than focus on his own achievement, which gave the Dodgers the lead.

“That’s just what we do,” said Betts. “That’s why we’re good. We play the full 27 outs, we grind each at-bat, and no one really gives up or gives away at-bats.”

Mookie Betts provided the finishing touch to the game.

Of all the amazing feats in baseball, perhaps the most remarkable was what Mookie Betts accomplished in the ninth inning of Game 3 of the World Series. With two outs and Joc Pederson batting, Betts ran 62 feet to track down a well-hit line drive, putting all his effort into reaching out to grab the ball and end the inning.

Trea Turner’s smooth sliding play

Betts said he was certain he would catch the ball off the bat, and was modest when asked about how significant the moment was for him. “It’s just a catch, dude,” he said.“Whether it’s the beginning or the end of the game, a catch is still an out. I don’t get too excited about those; they’re just what I’m supposed to do.”

Mookie Betts hit a clutch homer.

Although he was more willing to speak to Betts’ greatness, Thompson was not surprised to see him make the catch. “He gets incredible jumps out there,” Thompson said. “Everyone knows how great of a hitter and all-around player he is, of course.” However, being a defender and particularly one with infield experience, he is remarkable. All the accolades you can imagine are at his fingertips.

Cody Bellinger’s sliding catch

Betts’s return to the lineup on Thursday should put to rest any concerns about his physical health, as he appears to be fully recovered from a fractured right rib that kept him out for two weeks in late June to early July. He says that the rib injury is no longer bothering him and that he is ‘100% healthy.’ This allows him to focus on his performance exclusively, making him capable of performing feats such as being the two-way hero in Los Angeles’ NL-leading 27th comeback win this year.

“I just want to help the squad triumph,” Betts said. “I had to perform a few different jobs, but, thankfully, God endowed me with those skills.”
