Simba Sports Club plays its home games at Kariakoo Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Originally known as Tanzania Giants, Dar Young Africans split out in 1936 to form their own club, which they aptly named Queens in honor of the Queen of England. The club’s name evolved from “Queens” to “Eagles” and finally “Sunderland.” Before changing to Simba in 1971, they were known as “The Lions” (Swahili for “Lion”).

Simba SC have competed in the CAF Champions League on many occasions, and have won 21 league crowns and 5 domestic cup competitions. Six times winners of the CECAFA Club Championship make them one of the most successful clubs in East Africa.

The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is where Simba play their home games. With 1.9 million followers in 2022, an increase of 89% from the previous year made Simba the football club with the fastest-growing Instagram account. [1]

For the next 2019–20 season, the club has revealed a total budget of Sh 6.1 Billion (about $5.3 million). This makes it one of the wealthiest in East Africa.

About Mapinduzi Cup 2023

The Mapinduzi Cup is the best football tournament in Zanzibar. It is a knockout tournament. In honor of the Zanzibar Revolution, Mapinduzi means “Revolution.” The Zanzibar Football Federation made the Mapinduzi Cup as a way to remember Zanzibar’s Revolution Day, which is every year on January 12.

 

In 1998, it was held for the first time. But the cup is played by both clubs from Zanzibar and clubs from the rest of Tanzania. Since 2013, Kenyan and Ugandan clubs have sometimes been invited to take part.

These three tournaments, along with the Zanzibari Cup and the Nyerere Cup, are the most important knockout tournaments in Zanzibar. Jamhuri F.C. won the first time it was held.
