At this point in time, it is the most successful football club in the history of the South African Premier Soccer League. They triumphed in the CAF Champions League in 2016, as well as the CAF Super Cup in 2017, and were named the CAF Club of the Year for 2016.

They have also been victorious on the home front, taking home the Nedbank Cup a total of six times, the MTN 8 four times, and the Telkom Knockout four times. They are the first team from South Africa to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, and they ended up finishing in sixth place there.

Sundowns is one of the most valuable clubs in Africa and is owned by Patrice Motsepe, a South African business billionaire. According to market valuation, Sundowns is also one of the most valuable clubs in the world.

[ The nickname of the club, “The Brazilians,” comes from the fact that their uniform (blue and yellow) is quite similar to the one used by the Brazilian national soccer team.

The club is quite proud of their one-of-a-kind style of offensive play, which is known in the area as “Shoe Shine & Piano.” This style features combinations of rapid, short passes on the ground and is analogous to the Tiki-taka style that is played in Spain.

This manner of play has been mirrored in the club’s Women’s football team as well as its Youth teams during the course of the club’s history. Sundowns Football Club made history in 2021 by being the first club in Africa to win both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Women’s Champions League.
