Press release

Marking of the 2023 Kenya Secondary Education Certificate Examination

The 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination marking process is proceeding without a hitch in all 35 centers, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) wishes to notify the people.

However, several examiners at one of the centers marking Christian Religious Education Paper I on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 attempted to sabotage the exercise because they allegedly disapproved of the “tight” marking guidelines enforced by the center’s chief examiner.

As a compromise to enable a smooth progression of the marking process, the Council authorities decided to replace the Chief Examiner.

Sadly, even after their initial request was granted, some of the examiners once more requested that the marking price be increased.

The Council found it impossible to obtain an additional budget to change the rates in the middle of the exam since the issue of the examiner’s marking fee is a personal contract that must be agreed upon before reporting to a center.

The Council made the decision to permit the examiners who wanted to continue marking to do so without interruption.

In the same way, individuals who wanted to leave the marking process may do so without causing any more delays.

To guarantee the smooth operation of the exercise, the Council has invited trained examiners from its database.

The Council wants to reassure the people that the marking process is moving smoothly and will be finished in time for the KCSE Examination to be released on schedule.
