KCPE Results 2022/2023 Check Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Results, How do I get my 2021 KCPE results?

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) is a certificate awarded to students after completing the approved eight-year course in primary education in Kenyans. The examination is supervised by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), an examining body in Kenya under the Ministry of Education. The same body also conducts and regulates the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), a certificate awarded to students after completing secondary education. KCPE and KCSE were both started in 1985 when the 8-4-4 system of education was introduced in Kenya.


The subjects examined are Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Social Studies and Religious Education (Christian/Islamic/Hindu) and Science. English and Kiswahili consist of two parts, for English there is Grammar and Composition, and for Kiswahili, there is Lugha and Insha. Social Studies includes a bit of Kenyan History, Civic education, current County system of government as well as all the Religious Studies. Deaf or hard of hearing students may choose to be tested in Kenyan Sign Language instead of Kiswahili.Each subject is worth a maximum of 100 marks. Each candidate is therefore able to earn a maximum of 500 marks. If by chance someone gets over 400 marks they are admitted to a government sponsored school. The exam time runs from the last week of October and takes three days. In 2016, the exams were held In October.Results are then announced by the Minister for Education sometime in November. Efforts are ongoing to scrap the KCPE exam


Here is the procedure:
  1. Visit the Official KNEC website (knec.ac.ke)
  2. Check for the KCPE Results tab, click on it.
  3. Select the year you sat for the Exams.
  4. Enter your Index number.
  5. Finally click the Submit button.
  6. Your KCPE results should show on the screen after a while



Each subject score is converted to be out of 100 points and standardised to have a mean score of roughly 50, making the mean total score 250 marks.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has now posted the 2022 KCPE result slips which you can easily download and print for all candidates. The portal for accessing the result slips is https://www.knec-portal.ac.ke/.
Admission letters are posted on the Education ministry website www.education.go.ke. However, parents can check the schools their children have been selected to join by sending an SMS to 22263. You are required to SMS with the candidate’s Index Number to 22263 from any network.

  • Visit the https://www.knec-portal.ac.ke/
  • Check  for the KCPE Results tab, click on it
  • Select the year you sat for the Exams
  • Enter your Index number.
  • Finally click the Submit button.
  • Your KCPE results should show on the screen after a while.

For the SMS option, the candidates should send their index number, followed by the initials KCPE (in capital letters) to 20076 in order to access the results.

This is the most effective and fastest way of checking for the results. To get KCPE results 2021/2022 by SMS a candidate is required to send an SMS with your Index Number to 20076.

The service is viable for all the three network providers in the country Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom networks. Send the SMS in the Format: IndexNumberKCPE. Do not leave a space between Index number and KCPE; Also write KCPE in Capital letters.

The cost of each SMS is Sh.25. Remember to only send the SMS once the results are officially announced.
