How to Reset the DSTV Receiver (HD or Explora)


Many individuals desire to know why and how to reset a DStv decoder. Corrupt software can be repaired by resetting your decoder. Also, if you mix up the correct decoder setups, you can easily restore the factory settings by resetting your decoder.

Reasons for a hard reset
The software of the decoder, like that of other electrical devices, can become corrupt. This is most common when the decoder is paused during a software upgrade. In my experience as a DStv technician, I’ve found that resetting the decoder can fix corrupt software.

If your decoder loses the DStv signal due to wrong settings, you can reset it to regain signal reception.

Perhaps you are one of those do-it-yourselfers who enjoy experimenting with decoder settings. If you make a mistake during the setup, you can reset your decoder to restore the previous configurations.

Hard disks in older Explora decoders are infamous for being corrupt. Furthermore, the hard disk may fill up. As a result, the decoder is rendered useless. You can repair the corrupt hard disk and clear up some space on the hard drive by resetting your decoder.

How to Restore Your DSTV Decoder to Factory Settings

  1. On your remote control, press the blue “DStv” button.
  2. Then, on the remote control, press the right arrow to navigate to “Settings.”
  3. Select “System Settings” using the down arrow.
  4. Now, using the right arrow, navigate to the next menu and choose “Reset Decoder Settings.”
  5. Scroll down and select “Reset To Factory Default,” then click “OK” on your remote control.
  6. And there you have it, gentlemen. This is how to restore your decoder to its factory default settings. If resetting the decoder does not solve your problem, you should try taking it to a repair shop for testing.
