Young Africans Sports Club is a football club based in Jangwani, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Founded in 1935, the club play their home games at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Nicknamed “wananchi”, “Yanga” (Young Boys),Young Africans is one of the two biggest clubs in Tanzania, alongside cross-city rivals Simba. The club has won 27 league titles and four domestic cups, and have participated in multiple CAF Champions League editions. They are also one of the biggest clubs in East Africa, having won the CECAFA Club Championship five times.
The club was popular among Africans, and became a symbol of the anti-colonial movement. Young Africans became associated with nationalists and freedom fighters, and inspired the political party TANU to adopt yellow and green as their primary colours. Young African is the most successful and dorminant club in Tanzania football

Tanzania Data Lab (dLab) in collaboration with Vodacom Tanzania PLC are excited to present another session of Codelikeagirl programme to be held on August 10-13, 2021 at Tanzania Data Lab (dLab) offices, located at the College of ICT, Kijitonyama Campus, along New Bagamoyo Road, in Dar es Salaam.
What the programme entails
The training programme will cover basic knowledge of computer languages and development programmes including HTML, CSS, GitHub and Bootstrap. Participants will be taken on a fun and empowering life skills journey while developing coding, presentation and communication skills. At the end of the week, they will know how to develop their own website and present their work to the rest of the coding class. Furthermore, dLab would be happy to support those with innovative ideas and want to scale them up.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  1. Knowledge management and capacity building
  • Research and document best and promising practices to prevent violence against children in homes, schools and communities.
  • Contribute to identifying, capturing, synthesizing and sharing lessons learnt from interventions to prevent violence against children for knowledge development and capacity building.
  • Share information in a youth-friendly way to schools to promote understanding and engage students in actively participating in school-based interventions to prevent violence against children.
  1. Program management, monitoring and delivery of results
  • Participate in regular field monitoring visits to assess and document child protection interventions to prevent violence against children in homes, schools and communities. Report on critical issues, bottlenecks, and problems in the implementation of the interventions.
  • Work closely with the child protection and innovations teams at UNICEF to support innovative interventions to raise awareness on violence against children and encourage reporting of violence among young people.
  1. Networking, partnership building and advocacy
  • Build and sustain effective working partnerships with community actors, teachers, young people and students to strengthen violence against children interventions in homes, schools and communities.
  • Work closely with the child protection communication for development specialist to draft human interest stories, photo essays and other communication materials for program advocacy to promote awareness of progress made to prevent violence against children.
  1. Additional tasks
  • Participate in the planning, coordination and development of child protection interventions to prevent violence against children, as required and directed by the supervisor.

Like every year, UNESCO rewards six individuals or organizations for their outstanding projects that promote literacy learning. This year the projects and programs are requested to reflect the theme ‘Inclusive distance and digital literacy learning’.
The theme highlights innovative practices that literacy promoters have been initiating as a way to ensuring the continuity of literacy learning during the COVID-19 crisis. By finding solutions for continuing literacy learning for even the most vulnerable populations has made a difference during a critical time, where face-to-face teaching and learning is restricted. In line with the UNESCO Strategy for Youth and Adult Literacy, the focus is, but not limited to, literacy learning in a lifelong learning perspective. Throughout the pandemic, distance learning has shown many faces and been supported by high-, low- and no tech solutions as well as hybrid learning that combined face-to-face learning.

About the 2021 UNESCO International Literacy Prizes

UNESCO distinguishes between two Literacy Prizes which are given to six laureates in total:

  • The UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize (3 awards), was established in 1989 and is supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea. It gives special consideration to programs that promote mother language-based literacy development.
  • The UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy (3 awards), was established in 2005, and is supported by the Government of the People’s Republic of China. This Prize recognizes programs that promote literacy, including functional literacy, leveraging technological environments, in support of adults in rural areas and out-of-school youth.

Under the direct supervision of Tanzania UNV Country Coordinator, and in coordination with UNV Regional Office for East and Southern Africa and the Talent Acquisition team at UNV HQ, the National UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 

  • Review the existing candidate talent pool for Tanzania; categorize registered candidates as per different occupational categories following the UNV Programme’s taxonomy.
  • Review candidates profiles/CVs under different occupational categories high in demand; request candidates to update their online profiles (providing guidance on the missing elements) and in consultation with the Talent Acquisition team in UNV HQ
  • In consultation with UNV Regional Office and UNV HQ, establish qualitative criteria that candidates need to be added to the vetted talent pool,
  • Assess the needs of UN partners for national UN Volunteers and create a fit-gap analysis between the demand for and supply of profiles/CVs in the talent pool,
  • Generate targeted calls for applications to strengthen the National Talent Pool in areas in demand with an objective of engaging Tanzania nationals as UN Volunteers within and outside country,
  • Regularly review the National Talent Pool and provide suggestions for talent outreach partners and channels that can support the attraction of high quality profiles available at the disposal of UN Agencies in Tanzania

Background

WHO is providing financial and technical assistance to the Government if Zanzibar through the Ministry of Health, Social Welfare, Gender, Elderly and Children in strengthening response measures aimed at mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on human lives. A critical aspect of the COVID-19 response is strengthening case management and IPC. In this regard, WHO wants to recruit temporary staff to be deployed to Zanzibar to support the COVID-19 response.
The Technical officer is expected to work in close collaboration with Ministry of Health,Social Welfare, Gender, Elderly and Children, Other relevant Ministries and departments and other partners in achieving the expected results.

Scope and Methodology

Under the direct supervision of the EPR Team Lead and WHO Representative, the incumbent’s duties shall be to:

Summary of Assigned Duties:

  1. Build capacity of front-line health care workers in Case management and IPC at health facilities in regions and districts through training, on-site mentorship, and supportive supervision
  2. Assess IPC capacity at all levels of healthcare system. Minimum requirements include functional triage system and isolation rooms, trained staff (for early detection and standard principles for IPC); and sufficient IPC materials, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and WASH services/hand hygiene stations
  3. Provide technical support in updating training package for case management for COVID-19 and Infection Prevention and Control, build capacity at national level, and cascade training in all districts using ToTs
  4. Ensure utilization of appropriate SOPs and protocols for case management and IPC at treatment centres and health facilities; and provide technical support in reviewing the SOPs and protocols when deemed necessary
  5. Operationalize guidelines, SOPs and care protocols for the implementation of triage, emergency preparedness, emergency care and critical care.
  6. Provide support for the implementation of Comprehensive plan for Oxygen and critical care, by Ensuring effective use of oxygen and build capacity for maintenance of equipment for emergency and critical care.
  7. Support resource mobilization to support implementation of critical activities for Case Management and IPC
  8. Ensure timely submission of reports
  9. In collaboration with the RCCE pillar, develop relevant messaging to the community on COVID-19 case management and Infection Prevention
  10. Provide support in forecasting and planning of IPC supplies for responding to COVID-19
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Incident Manager, EPR Team lead, Case management and IPC team lead.
