In 1982, 1986, 2010, and 2014, the North African squad qualified for four World Cups. Algeria has won the Africa Cup of Nations twice, first in 1990 when it hosted the event and again in 2019 in Egypt, as well as the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021. They also won the 1991 Afro-Asian Cup of Nations, the 1978 All-Africa Games men’s football tournament, and the 1975 Mediterranean Games men’s football tournament.

Algeria’s historic adversaries are Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt. Algeria has also played highly intense matches against Nigeria, particularly during Algeria’s strongest football generation in the 1980s, Mali owing to a shared border and a long-standing fierce rivalry, and Senegal, where Algeria’s first worldwide triumph started. Algeria’s most famous triumph was a 2–1 victory against West Germany in the 1982 FIFA Globe Cup, when the African country stunned the world. Algeria has produced a number of outstanding players throughout the years and is regarded as one of Africa’s top football teams. Algeria became the first African side to score at least four goals in a World Cup match, which they did against South Korea, in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
