Yanga Sc History

The club’s origins may be traced back to the 1910s, but its formal history dates from 1935, when Dar es Salaam citizens, who were classified as Africans by the Tanganyika colonial authorities, decided to organize a football club to participate in a league dominated by “non-African” football teams. The earliest name of the club is reported to be New Young. Dar es Salaam Young Africans SC was later replaced, and the name was subsequently changed to Young Africans Sports Club.

Members squabbled about their team’s low performance and outcomes after it was founded in 1935. In 1936, the club had an even worse and disappointing performance, prompting some members to separate and start a new squad. The breakaway’s proponents were Arabs who thought fit to incite discord among the club’s members, resulting in a split. They were successful, and they created Queens F.C. with the help of dissidents (currently Simba). Since then, Young Africans and Simba have been bitter rivals. The teams form the most exciting fight in the Sub-Saharan area, the eye-catching furious and always recognized as one of Africa’s top five most talked about derbies.

Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium

Tanzania National Main Stadium, commonly known as Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, situated in the Miburani sector of the Temeke District. It was constructed next to Uhuru Stadium, the old national stadium, and inaugurated in 2007. It hosts significant football events such as the Tanzanian Premier League and the Tanzania national team’s home matches.

With 60,000 seats, it is Africa’s eighth biggest stadium and Tanzania’s largest stadium. The Tanzanian government owns the property. Beijing Construction Engineering Group spent $56 million to construct the stadium.

The first derby between Simba S.C. and Young Africans S.C. was played in front of a sold-out stadium in Dar es-Salaam in 2008.

Both teams’ other league fixtures are usually under-attended.
